THE BASIC RULES OF TABLE TENNIS

Table tennis has certain rules that players must follow, especially when competing against other players in official competitions. There are many technical rules for playing table tennis, but this time we will stick to the basics.

Ping pong also called table tennis, is a game in which two players or two pairs compete against each other. Most of the basic rules are related to equipment, the serve, and moves.

Basic equipment:

Table tennis racket made of wood and one or two rubber.

Table tennis table with a smooth surface and a central net that divides it into two parts (the official table should always adhere to the measurements established in the rules).

The surface of the table tennis table should be rectangular, 2'74m, 1'525m, and 76cm from the ground.

The table tennis ball must be white or orange and matt, with a diameter of 40mm and a weight of 2.7g. There are also balls in different colors that are designed for non-professional games.

The first player to serve will be randomly selected. After serving twice, each player or pair will serve the opposing player or pair.

When playing pair table tennis, each player must always serve a slant to the right through the white lines drawn on the table.

In the next game of the match, a player starting on one side must move to the other.

The ball is placed on the palm and thrown at least 16 cm from the table to serve in ping pong (service). The first bounce should put the ball to the side of the net serving player.

The ball must bounce on the opponent's side after the first bounce before the opponent can hit it with his or her paddle.

The rally period begins when the ball is in play. During this time, each player must hit the ball to pass it to the opposing team. Players cannot bounce the ball on their side when they hit it, but they can bounce it on the opponent's side.

It is disallowed to move the table or touch it with any part of the body or object except the ping pong paddle while the ball is in play. If this occurs, the opposing team will be awarded a point.

When do you win a game?

When players score points.

The ball bounces two or more times on the opposite side.

If the opponent hits the ball and it falls off the table without first bouncing or hitting the opponent, then the game is over.

The first player or pair to eleven points with a two-point advantage over the opponent wins the game.

Table tennis matches are made up of odd games of three, five, or seven games, depending on the competition. The winner is the person who has won more than half of the game’s first.
